Hard Vine Charcoal on Michelangelo Drawing Paper 28"x 22" 1985 $750
Seven(!) students semi-circled the room to do sight-size drawings of the standing figure for three weeks, three days a week, three hours a day. So each figure study was 27 hours of model time, then we'd work on backgrounds and values when the model wasn't there. Most was done with the model there, though. We did this September through June 1984-5 and 1985-6. Many flops and some fine figure drawings were done during these sessions, all of us alternately succeeding and failing. Paul would come on Fridays, and students would cringe as their turn for critique and teaching approached.
This must have been a terribly difficult pose for the model to hold. He became a friend of mine, told hilarious jokes, was an excellent pianist and table tennis player, and eventually played the piano at my wedding.
